After enduring what we've been told is one of the coldest winters in recent memory in the Pacific Northwest, we were rewarded with lovely weather, lovely friends, and yet more breathtaking scenery. Here are the images that we'll take with us when we have to finally depart from the Pacific Northwest.

In May, 2009, I was honored to be invited to speak at the Newsmaker series at the National Press Club in Washington, DC about my advocacy work on behalf of the Sail Through Cancer Foundation and my book, Manning Up In Alaska. Upon hearing I would be on the East Coast, Bob Jones, owner of a sister-ship, Catalina 470 Silhouette, graciously invited us to be his guests for a long-weekend of sailing on Chesapeake Bay. We also had the opportunity to meet several other Catalina 470 owners, as well as many of the members of the Catalinas of Chesapeake Bay Fleet.

After enduring what we've been told is one of the coldest winters in recent memory in the Pacific Northwest, we finally broke free our snowy, icy, windy bonds and set forth to explore once more. Here we are moored at Butchart Gardens near Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.

We are spending the winter in Sidney, BC and taking advantage of any breaks in the weather we can to visit places we haven't seen yet. There are literally hundreds of ports and anchorages within 50 miles (an easy one or two day sail) of here.

THE RETURN VOYAGE: JUNEAU, AK TO SIDNEY, BRITISH COLUMBIA. In late July, 2008, we started the return voyage to our new winter home in Sidney, BC where we'll be from October, 2008 to April, 2009. In this album, you'll see pictures of humback whales feeding in Icy Strait, a compelling, yet tragic, incident we watched while a pod of Orcas attacked a baby humpback calf . Listening to the plaintive cries of the mother was heart wrenching, so we moved on before the drama played out. We also have lots of shots of the frontier villages and quaint ports we visited as we spent our final two months touring Alaska's panhandle and northern British Columbia, Canada as we continued our voyage south.

THE WINTER OF 2007-2008 was full of last minute details in preparation for our trip to Alaska and visiting with as many friends as possible before we left. I'm only sorry I didn't get everyone's picture for the website, but a lot of you will find your pictures in this album. One of the highlights was a quick visit to Ensenada to get an aerial photo shoot of "Last Resort," and the best of the pictures are included in this album.

THANKSGIVING, 2007, TWO HARBORS, CATALINA ISLAND, CA, AND ENVIRONS. Thanksgiving, 2007 produced the best weather we've ever experienced at Catalina this time of year, and proved to be one of our most idyllic cruises to date. We have captured much of the incredible scenery at Cat Harbor, Banning House and Little Harbor, where we stole away for 2 days and nights at this secluded and spectacular anchorage.
